The hype around Coda, and its “opportunistic” funding round, echo similar investments in other companies in the space in recent months. “It dropped the amount of work about 50%,” says David Rogier, Masterclass’ CEO. (Coda declined to provide its total number of corporate customers it can count multiple “teams” per company.) Masterclass, the streaming platform with celebrity teaching videos, says it has used Coda to designate and coordinate tasks across dozens of teams, all the way to the final distribution of completed projects online. Since then, the company says it has grown to more than 25,000 “teams,” which it specifies as individual networks of users at companies that include Uber, The New York Times and Spotify. Coda could then transform the results into a web application without the need for any code.Ĭoda launched at the start of 2019 with a few hundred customers after five years in development. The pair started Coda in 2014 with the goal of reimagining the online document: rather than have separate platforms for spreadsheets, documents, presentations, and to-do lists, Coda could offer a blank slate where all could be created in one place. Shishir Mehrotra, Coda’s CEO and co-founder, previously held senior roles at Microsoft and YouTube alongside his co-founder and college friend Alex DeNeui.
